day 1 Beth
In the summer of 2002 Hampshire County Schools, Paula O’Brien, and a state program, GearUp, funded and sponsored a week long day camp in North River Mills. Beth Parsons, Nancy Davis, and Jack Aclin joined Steve and Terry Lynn Bailes at their old inn in North River Mills. A dance teacher, Jam, from Shenandoah U. taught Taiwanese Dance. Russ McClain and Ruth Thornton of the TNC met the students on Ice Mt. to guide the pulling of stiltgrass, an invasive weed on the preserve. Neil Gillies of the Cacapon Institute, met the students at the North River to evaluate the health of the river. Students were organized in “villages” promoting the Samoan sense of community.
